Production Job, Complete

August 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Whew. Our big production job is now complete. Rather, it was on Saturday but I just went through all the elements, making sure they’re all perfect and there’s the right amount. We printed her wedding invitations, directions cards, reply cards, reply envelopes, outer envelopes, and provided the inner envelopes; 175 of everything (+ more envelopes for mistakes and extra invitations for keepsakes). That’s a lot! But oh it was satisfying. We’re delivering the package on Saturday and if she’s okay with it, I’ll post a picture of them.

Just in Time for the Holidays…

August 18, 2008 · 1 Comment

Yes, I know it’s only August… I’m big on planning ahead.

So in between jobs one day, I decided to play around with our “big-ass font” (72 point- that’s pretty big!) and made myself some personalized note cards. I am so pleased with the way the type printed that I’d love to make some for you, too! Order for yourself, your friends, family, neighbors, dog walker, whomever! There are so many possibilities with what you can say, but as this is handset type and we have only a certain number of each letter, it’s best to keep it short and sweet (or sour. Those are fun, too). We’ll email you quickly if there’s a problem with your requested text.

The Details
Size: A2 (5.5×4.25) folded cards
Paper Color: Pearl White
Text Placement: Lower left corner of front
Ink Color: Black, Brown or Navy
Envelope Color: Brown, Blue or Gray
Font: 72 point Alternate Gothic (no lowercase)
Price: $20 for 10 cards (+$6 shipping & handling)

Here’s the font we’ll use. Numbers are also available.

Production starts in October and will go through November so get your orders in!
We will be printing a limited number of orders so place it sooner rather than later.

To order, send an email to info@shopinviting.com with:
Your name
Email Address (for problems & paypal invoice)
Shipping Address (no international orders, sorry)
1st Line Text
2nd Line Text (if desired)
Ink Color
Envelope Color

All orders will be carefully packed, wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a ribbon.
We will notify you when your order has been shipped.

Graduation Announcements, Parts Two & Three

August 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Finished up the graduation announcements. You’ll notice a few things changed from the pre-proof design and the finalized design. That’s why proofing is *so* important. It costs way too much to go back after the plate has been made so you have to make all corrections as soon as the design is sent for proofs.

Here’s what the polymer plate looks like:

Funny how it doesn’t look like much in plate form. Looks chunky and like the fine lines of the man’s ears won’t show properly. But when printed you can see that everything came out nice and crisp.

Graduation Announcements, Part One

August 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Got the design finished for the graduation announcements that we’re making.

Andrew wanted some-thing fun and casual, so I went with “cheese” for him. He approved, “Nothing says “Andrew” more than cheese.”

Found the guy in one of those “Mostly Happy” clip art books and it should print really well! Printing it on Sunday in a navy ink, on 3.5×5 pearl white lettra, and ordered him some recycled brown envelopes (because they aren’t being printed).

Should be a nice little package for him.

Working on Job #1

January 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday we printed the return address on the envelopes. I’m guessing that was the easiest printing part of the job. The rest of the afternoon was spent fixing the invite form, and then printing those. A few sorts shifted during printing, so many are unusable, but the practice is welcome, so I’m okay with that. (Or rather I’m telling myself that I’m okay with that. Honestly, I’m quite disappointed that I didn’t catch the shift before printing a stack of them… But, now I know!)

The shipment from Crane arrived when I was on holiday so we definitely have enough supplies to play with. Ordered a pack of Lettra in Pearl White. It looks really nice and I’m happy with the way it prints as well.

Next weekend the goal is to finish printing the invitations, start on the reply cards (and possibly finish those too!), and clean/organize a little more because our second Kluge and stone will be arriving on Saturday! It will be a big and dirty weekend.I’m loving that Lava Orange Pumice soap- really takes the ink/oil/machine build-up off!

* I forgot to share that when we went to start creating the forms, the list of fonts we have didn’t match up to the actual inventory. What was labeled “Lydian Cursive” was not a cursive at all, so we had to find some similar fonts…

Job #1, on it’s way

December 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Well, our first job is wedding invitations for friends who are getting married in March. It’s to be an informal occasion so we’re doing a one-color invitation, and a postcard reply. The design’s been approved by bride and groom so we’re ready to get started! As inviting hasn’t purchased the boxcar base yet, we’re setting the type by hand. Decided on Garamond and Lydian Cursive. Tomorrow we start creating the form, and the next weekend, or whenever the paper arrives, we’ll start production.
